Two police officers helped a woman give birth near the Bethal Police Station's gate on April 19.
Sgt Itumeleng Motalane and Const Tilane Lebitsa were alerted by a member of the public that a heavily pregnant woman was crying for help outside the station.
Motalane, who has four children of her own, realised the woman was about to give birth. She and Lebitsa acted as midwives, helping her give birth to a healthy baby boy.
Motalane used her cell phone to Google how to cut an umbilical cord.
The officers escorted the mother and child to the Bethal Hospital afterwards. Both were declared healthy.
The acting provincial commissioner of Mpumalanga SAPS, Maj Gen Thulani Phahla, commended the police officers for going the extra mile.
