Crime on the Uitkyk Road came under the spotlight after another break-in last week.
According to a lodge owner, at about 08:00 on June 17, he was locking up the reception area when about five suspects in an unmarked Toyota Hilux bakkie pulled up to the gate.
One was dressed in a police uniform and they told him they were busy with an investigation. The victim, believing the story, let them onto his property; they tied him up and stole various small items.
They took him to his house, located on the same property, where they tied up his wife and stole more small valuables like watches and cash. The victims were not harmed during the incident.
Bossies Community Justice and Hi-Tech quickly arrived on the scene and closed off all possible exit points, however, by that time the suspects had already escaped.
The case is currently being investigated by the SAPS, who are also looking into the allegation that one was clothed in police gear.
Albert Gryvenstein of Bossies Community Justice has labelled the Uitkyk Road a “hotspot” for crime. Several incidents have occurred in the area in the last month alone.
Lowvelder has reported on three separate crimes these last three weeks, including a robbery at Shandon Estate and the attack on a man at the Klipspringer Lodge.
Gryvenstein believes that most of the incidents in the area are connected, as victims have given similar descriptions of the perpetrators.
The Uitkyk Road is a soft target as the surrounding area offers easy escape routes. The plantations also make it easy for criminals to hide.
